Creative Sandwiches at Jake’s Sandwich Board

Jake's Sandwich Board in Philadelphia

’20 + Creative Philly Sandwiches’

Jake’s Sandwich Board was an establishment that was created by Sean Stein and Gary Dorfan and opened in May 2010. Gary once had Jake’s Cheesesteaks and wanted to expand his menu.  Sean basically made this statement to us,

“We wanted to bring back a classic sandwich place and put a little twist on the actual sandwiches, making them unique.”

One reason why not only do they have over 20 types of sandwiches, but that more than half of the sandwiches aren’t your typical styles of sandwiches found in most restaurants or eateries in the city.

Jake’s Sandwich Board’s Experience & Atmosphere

At Jake’s Sandwich Board, they go the extra mile with a four step process when it comes to roasting all their meats.

  • They Tenderize the meats with a house-made brine.
  • Then they slow cook overnight for 10 hours at a low temperature.
  • Blast the meats in their convection oven.
  • Finally, let the meats rest in the fridge for 24 hours.
Jake's Sandwich Board
Jake’s steaks are from a Pennsylvania butcher using eye-round ribeye, that all their vegetables are from local farmers, and all their sauces are homemade. For the bread, they use Carangi Bakery breads located in South Philly.

We tried two different sandwiches since it was hard to make up our minds with all of the wonderful selections. The first choice was the Philly Wasabi, a chessesteak with beef, american cheese, topped with wasabi spread and crunchy onions. Our second choice was the Pig sandwich with sharp provolone and roasted peppers. Both sandwiches were juicy with a unique taste.

Some of the other top selling sandwiches are their 50/50 sandwich with 1/2 pork, 1/2 smoky grilled bacon, house sriracha spread and sharp provolone, the Turbacon sandwich with a slow roasted whole turkey, cranberry-apple spread, smoky grilled bacon, savory brown gravy and crispy potato pancakes, or the Mensch sandwich with slow-roasted beef brisket, horseradish sauce, fried onions and melted provolone cheese.
