Tony Luke’s on Oregon Avenue, is exit stage right or left. Depending on how you approach Tony Luke’s on Oregon Avenue, either from South Front Street or the underpass of I-95, you usually can’t miss it with its long lines. The Original Tony Luke’s opened on February 3rd, 1992.

If you are at the Original Tony Luke’s, you will usually see a line, especially during the spring and summer months when it’s not enclosed.

There are many unique things about Tony Luke’s that other cheesesteak places can’t really claim.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Tony Luke Jr for about an hour while enjoying a pizza steak. I am one who usually will put a little ketchup on it, but Tony is a purist, so I ate it without the ketchup. One word, “fantastic.” Not only did Tony go out of his way to talk with me, but he made me feel real comfortable, and we just talked about life in general. If you don’t know, Tony has done a lot in his lifetime, which can be found on his web site. ~ The Story Behind the Legend ~ Everything from acting, to writing and producing music, to kick boxing, to running a successful cheesesteak business.

Over the years, I have tried many different Tony Luke’s sandwiches to include, the Italian Pork with broccoli rabe and with sharp provolone, the roast beef with cheese, and the chicken cheesesteak. Even though everyone has different tastes and might like different cheesesteak establishments, I have never gone wrong with any of the Tony Luke’s sandwiches, to even include the basic cheesesteak with cheese whiz and onions.

Tony Luke’s has become a Philadelphia icon for Cheesesteaks in Philadelphia for almost two decades and if you are ever visiting Philadelphia, I would highly recommend stopping at one of their locations.
