Cocktail Reception to Commemorate Liberation of Auschwitz at the National Liberty Museum ~ January 27 ~ 6 pm – 8 pm. $18 (sold out) – Held at the National Liberty Museum at 321 Chestnut Street. This event commemorates the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the largest of the German Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Broad Street. The Philadelphia Orchestra marks Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday with pianists Yefim Bronfman, Daniil Trifonov and Emanuel Ax performing all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos. Opera Philadelphia: Requiem at the Academy of Music ~ January 31 & February 2 ~ General Admission starts at $30. Held at the Academy of Music at 240 S. Broad Street. To mark conductor Corrado Rovaris’ 20th anniversary with Opera Philadelphia, more than 80 instrumentalists and 100 choristers join soloists Leah Crocetto (Don Carlo), Daniela Mack (Carmen), Evan LeRoy Johnson (Carmen) and In-Sung Sim for two powerful performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem. Winterfest for Wildlife at The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education ~ February 1 ~ Noon – 4 pm ~ Held at Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, 8480 Hagys Mill Road. Guests enjoy crafts, wildlife hikes, engaging talks about animals and more fun activities. All proceeds support the center’s Wildlife Clinic, one of the only rehabilitation clinics in the region that treats injured and orphaned wildlife for release back to the wild. A limited number of timed tickets for behind-the-scenes tours of the clinic are available to guests at the event on a first-come, first-served basis. ~ Winterfest for Wildlife at The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education ~

African American Children’s Book Fair at Community College of Philadelphia ~ February 1 ~ FREE – 1 pm – 4 pm ~ Held at the Community College of Philadelphia at 1700 Spring Garden Street. The 28th annual African American Children’s Book Fair is one of the oldest and largest single-day events for African American children’s books in the country. Making Home Movies Screening at 669 Ranstead Street ~ February 1 ~ FREE with registration – 3 pm – 6 pm. Held at 669 Ranstead St. The Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Porch Light program presents this free screening of Making Home Movies, a collaborative project featuring six films created by newly arrived immigrant and refugee communities with support from seasoned filmmakers and poets.
