Who has their appetite strapped on, because you’ll certainly need it. A ton of food and music events are lined up for the next 30 days.

The food festivals start taking shape in May and June. We already had the 2nd annual Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival, the Philly Farm & Food event, Flavors of the Avenue on East Passyunk, the PIFA street fair and the Festival of Forgotten Foods. This weekend, you’ll have the South Street Head House Spring Festival, the Strawbeery Festival, Plazapalooza Festival, Pie in the Sky Kite and Food Truck Festival, and the Philadelphia Burger Brawl. In the coming weeks, get ready for the Fitler Square Spring Fair, the Philadelphia Night Market Street Food Festival, the 9th Street Italian Market Festival, and Philly Beer Week starting May 31. Did you know : Philadelphia was named 1 of the top 10 US travel destinations for 2013. Also named for having the best sandwich in America, #2 in best burgers in the country by Travel + Leisure and in the last 8 months, the city has been recognized for top 10 parks in the world, best cheesesteaks, and #1 in Culture. We can feel that the list will be growing in 2013.

  • First Friday’s in Old City~ May 3 ~ Your chance to visit Art Galleries throughout Old City after normal hours. You will be able to talk to the art directors and possibly some of Philadelphia’s local artists. This also takes place as First Saturdays with select Art Galleries extending out to Fishtown. ~ First Fridays ~
  • First Friday’s in Manayunk ~ May 3 ~ Come enjoy art in Manayunk. Before or afterwards, enjoy a meal at the many restaurants, or stop in one of Manayunk’s wonderful specialty shops. ~First Friday’s in Manayunk ~
  • Art After 5 ~ May 3 ~ Free with admission, from 5 pm to 8:45 pm. Martha Graham Cracker – The queen of Philadelphia drag cabaret brings her campy cultural commentary. Martha, whose vocal range is matched only by her witty banter, will perform with accompanist Victor Fiorillo.  Held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Great Stair Hall, starting at 5 pm. ~ Art After 5 ~
  • Philadelphia Phillies ~ May 3 to 5 ~ A three game series against the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park. Cool Tip! Free face painting before every Sunday home game by Paint Your Face, inside McFadden’s Ball Park from 10:30 am until the game starts.   • Philadelphia International Children’s Festival – May 3 & 4 ~ Family-friendly performances, crafts and interactive events. ~ Philadelphia International Children’s Festival ~
  • Equality Forum ~ May 4 & 5 ~ Bringing people together from around the world for panel discussions, parties, art and theater events and a lively community fair which is part of LGBT history and culture here in Philly. ~ Equality Forum ~
  • Strawberry Festival ~ May 4 & 5 ~ Held at Peddler’s Village from 10 am to 6 pm. Come and enjoy chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry fritters, strawberry shortcake and watch a strawberry pie eating contest. There will be live music and Arts & crafts for the children. ~ Strawberry Festival ~
  • South Street Head House Square Spring Festival ~ May 4 ~ From 2nd to 8th street on South Street. 30 of the District’s restaurants and bars can come out to serve up great food, drinks, and the tastes of cuisine from around the world.   • Maifest ~ May 4 ~  From noon to 8 pm. Part of the South Street Spring Festival, Brauhaus Schmitz will have a beer-filled daylong festival with German beer, food, and German music. ~ Maifest ~
  • Plazapalooza ~ May 4 ~ From 1 to 7 pm, Graduate Hospital is hosting a fun festival with live music, beer from Grace Tavern, food from local eateries and much more.  Located at the Grays Ferry Triangle at 23rd and South Streets. ~ Plazapalooza ~
  • Pie in the Sky Kite and Food Truck Festival ~ May 4 ~ From noon to 5 pm, Fishtown’s waterfront spot at Penn Treaty Park will  be having Fly Your Kite day. Bring your own kite or make it right there. Also enjoy great food from food trucks such as Vernilicious, Sweet Box Cupcakes and FooTruck. ~ Pie in the Sky Kite and Food Truck Festival ~
  • 104.5 Summer Block Party ~ May 4 ~ Summer concerts held at the Piazza at Schmidt’s, bringing you popular Philadelphia bands. On May 4th, listen to Atlas Genius and Jackson Kingsley as the musical acts and the next concert will be June 8th. ~ 104.5 Summer Block Party ~
  • Taste of Philadelphia: Market Tours ~ May 4 & 8 ~ Starts at 10 am every Wed & Sat – Learn the story behind cheese steaks, hoagies, pretzels and other Philly food favorites, and the 114-year history of the vibrant Reading Terminal Market where they’re sold during this 75-minute, food-writer-led walking tour. ~ Taste of Philadelphia: Market Tours ~
  • Philadelphia Burger Brawl ~ May 5 ~ From 3-6 pm at the Fleisher Art Memorial, located on 719 Catherine Street in South Philadelphia.  Twenty-four of the city’s top burger chefs compete to see which burger is the best.  ~ Philadelphia Burger Brawl ~
  • Broad Street Run ~ May 5 ~ Starting at 8:30, the 10 mile race goes from Northeast Philly at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue all the way down Broad Street where it finishes at the Navy Yard. ~ Broad Street Run ~
  • Pay As You Wish ~ April 10 ~ Stop in at the Philadelphia Museum of Art every Wednesday from 5 pm – 8:45 pm and ”Pay What You Wish”,  as you explore the museum and its remarkable collections.  ~ Pay What You Wish ~

  • The Artifact Lab – Mummy Conversation at Penn Museum ~ Now until (no date set) ~ Here is your chance to get up close and personal.
