Philadelphia Obon Festival At Shofuso Japanese House & Garden ~ August 24 ~ 11 am – 5 pm. Held at Shofuso Japanese House and Garden at Lansdowne Drive & Horticultural Drive. The Philadelphia Obon Festival marks the Japanese celebration of the spirits of one’s ancestors, known as Obon. Philly Naked Bike Ride ~ August 24 ~ FREE – Pre-Ride Festivities start at 3 pm. Ride starts at 5 pm. Route TBA. The ride is approximately 10 miles long and winds through different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia. Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes Exhibit at The Franklin Institute ~ August 24 – September 2 ~ Held at the Franklin Institute at 222 N. 20th Street. Fans of the superhero comics and movies get a look at Marvel iconic memorabilia, to include original Spider-Man art, T’Challa’s Black Panther costume, movie props and concept sketches. Hidden Lives Illuminated At Eastern State Penitentiary ~ August 24 – September 12 ~ FREE – Held at Eastern State Penitentiary at 2027 Fairmount Avenue. Screenings are about 40 minutes long and start at 7 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm every evening. Twenty commissioned, animated short films by artists living or working in prisons look inside the daily life of America’s correctional system. Each film is projected onto Eastern State Penitentiary’s 30-foot facade and is accompanied by a customized soundtrack. ~ Hidden Lives Illuminated At Eastern State Penitentiary ~
Creatures of Habitatte at the Philadelphia Zoo ~ August 24 – September 30 ~ Held at the Philadelphia Zoo at 3400 W. Girard Avenue. Visitors will get to explore 12 amazing life-size LEGO® brick vignettes situated throughout the Zoo. This gazillion piece journey shares the issues animals are facing around the world and spotlights the heroes working to save them. Each life-sized LEGO® brick scene is intricately fashioned from thousands of LEGO® bricks and is on exhibit only at Philadelphia Zoo. Keystone Comic Con at The Pennsylvania Convention Center ~ August 25 ~ This convention is for fans of comics, cosplay and all things pop culture. Meet cast members from Harry Potter, Overwatch, Game of Thrones and more, along with comic book creators, cosplay models and more entertainers.
