The City of Philadelphia looks so beautiful with the many holiday light displays and lit trees.

This weekend kicks off with First Fridays, many tree lighting ceremonies, ice skating at the Rothman Ice Rink at Dilworth Park and at the Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, the holiday light show at Franklin Park, and holiday shopping at different venues. Also enjoy activities such as the Mary Poppins show, magic shows, farmers’ markets and much more. End your weekend with either the Philadelphia Eagles game and or the South Street Headhouse District winter extravaganza and tree lighting event.

In upcoming weeks, get ready for the Seaport Parade of Lights at the Independence Seaport Museum, fireworks on New Years Eve and the Mummers Parade.

  • Go Mt Airy Tree Lighting ~ December 5 ~ Tree lighting at the Lutheran Seminary at 4:45 pm with music from the Salvation Army Brass Band, followed by a community run Caroling session down the Avenue. That same evening, take pictures with Santa at Rothe Florists from 6-8pm.  The event is free and includes warm cider, cookies and candy canes for all.  There will be a store-wide sale on all holiday trimmings.
  • Art After 5 ~ December 5 ~ Free with admission, from 5 pm to 8:45 pm. Nutcracker Holiday Party  –  Journey through Toyland in our Nutcracker-themed winter program, featuring classical holiday compositions, chamber music, and beloved old carols performed by The Divine Hand, led by renowned concert thereminist Mano Divina. Held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Great Stair Hall. ~ Art After 5 ~
  • First Friday’s in Old City~ December 5 ~ Your chance to visit Art Galleries throughout Old City after normal hours. You will be able to talk to the art directors and possibly some of Philadelphia’s local artists.   • Christmas Festival at Peddler’s Village ~ December 6 & 7 ~ From 10 am – 8 pm on Saturday, december 6 and from 10 am – 6 pm on Sunday, December 7. Santa arrives in a parade on Saturday to kick off weekend visits with the children. Hot cider, toasted marshmallows are seasonal favorites. The Village is beautifully decorated, Victorian-style, with fruit wreaths and greenery. Live entertainment.   • First Sundays at Barnes Foundation ~ December 7 ~ FREE – On the first Sunday of every month, visitors to the Barnes Foundation will enjoy free admission, family entertainment and informative seminars from 10 am to 6 pm.   • South Street Headhouse Winter Extravaganza & Tree Lighting ~ December 7 ~ The event will take place from 4 pm to 7 pm, with dance performances by the Society Hill Dance Academy and the Philadelphia Dance Academy, free horse-drawn carriage rides and much more.   • Philadelphia Eagles ~ December 7 ~ Philadelphia Eagles play the Seattle Seahawks at 4:30 pm at the Linc! Come tailgate early. Want to see how a real tailgate party takes place, come stop by One Crazy Fan which is located in Lot D-6 in the Wells Fargo lots. Like what you see, sign up for future tailgating games at the Linc. Visiting Philadelphia

  • Philadelphia City Hall ~ Like Architecture? Philadelphia History? They give tours of the Philadelphia City Hall. If you go up high enough, you get to see the whole city. ~ Philadelphia City Hall ~
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art – So many things that surround this museum. The “Rocky” Steps or the “Rocky” statue. A great view down Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Behind the museum, you can view Boat House Row and a few other things. ~ Philadelphia Museum of Art ~

Upcoming Events & Attractions in Philadelphia ~ December 12 & beyond

  • Art After 5 ~ December 12 ~ Free with admission, from 5 pm to 8:45 pm. Philadelphia Holiday Groove  – Can you dig it? Art After 5 takes audiences back to the golden age of disco, soul, and Motown with a special holiday program featuring The Elements, from Élan Artists. Held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Great Stair Hall. ~ Art After 5 ~
  • Seaport Parade of Lights ~ December 13 ~ Festivities start at 11 am. Head on over to the Delaware River waterfront for the 5th annual Seaport Parade of Lights. Guest will enjoy both pleasure boats and working vessels decked out in fabulous decorations and lights. Before the parade, head to the Independence Seaport Museum, which is hosting the parade for lots of holiday activities and festivities. The light parade will begin at 5 pm.
