If you aren’t competing in the Philadelphia Marathon or any of the mini races, cheer them on during the race. There will be many activities this weekend surrounding the marathon, so check them out below.

Not a fan of running, check out the different kinds of art in the city, the many exhibits or musicals, or head on over to the Linc to tailgate prior to the Philadelphia Eagles game this weekend.

  • Fun at the Philadelphia Zoo ~ Now until November 16 ~ Celebrate Orangutan Awareness Week at the Zoo from November 10 through 16, with orangutan-themed games and activities and daily ‘meet the keeper’ chats at 2:30 pm in PECO Primate Reserve.  ~ Fun at the Philadelphia Zoo ~
  • Holiday Light Show at Franklin Square ~ Now until December 31 ~ Lights will create two alternating shows every 30 minutes, from 4:30 pm to 8 pm. The show will feature 50,000 LED lights, plus thousands more lights around the Square, with a sculptural 12-foot tall kite flying 16 feet above the fountain. ~ Holiday Light Show at Franklin Square ~
  • Elf Musical ~ Now until January 5, 2014 ~ It’s up to Buddy, the Elf, to save Christmas! Come experience the Broadway Musical of Elf at the Walnut Street Theater. ~ Elf Musical at Walnut Street Theater ~
  • Beyond the Paint: Philadelphia’s Mural Arts ~ November 15th – April 6, 2014 ~ The Mural Arts Program will be celebrating it’s 30th anniversary in 2014 and this exhibit showcases the cumulative work of 30 years of community engaged art-making in Philadelphia. Beyond the Paint will present archival and documentary material, including timeline-based information, interactive material, and images that are enlivened by the creation of new murals within the gallery space.   • Art After 5 ~ November 15Free with admission, from 5 pm to 8:45 pm. Orrin Evans  – Evans has been recognized as one of the most distinctive and inventive pianist of his generation. Described by the New York Times as “a poised artist with an impressive template of ideas at his command,” he is at the forefront of the music scene. Held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Great Stair Hall. ~ Art After 5 ~
  • Philadelphia Marathon ~ November 16 & 17 ~ Welcome to the 20th Anniversary of the Philadelphia Marathon. The Rothman Institute 8k run and kids fun run are held on the 16th while the marathon and half marathons are held on the 17th. Many weekend activities here! ~ Philadelphia Marathon ~
  • Taste of Philadelphia: Market Tours ~  November 16 & 20 ~ Starts at 10 am every Wed & Sat – Learn the story behind cheese steaks, hoagies, pretzels and other Philly food favorites, and the 114-year history of the vibrant Reading Terminal Market where they’re sold during this 75-minute, food-writer-led walking tour. ~ Taste of Philadelphia: Market Tours ~
  • Philadelphia Eagles Week 11 ~ November 17 ~ The Philadelphia Eagles play the Washington Redskins at 1 pm at Lincoln Financial Field. Visiting Philadelphia

  • Philadelphia Parks – Such as Fairmount Park or even Franklin Square for the kids or relaxing.
